Offering Thoughtful and Compassionate Care.

"Why did I wait so long? Dr. DePorter helped me get back to myself again!"

Happy Patient

Meet Dr. Thomas DePorter

I have been practicing psychiatry in Fort Worth, Texas, since 1989. I believe in being the kind of doctor that I would want for myself or my family. I care about my patients, and I care about getting results. I believe that everybody is unique and that what is right for one person is not necessarily right for another. In order to tailor accurate treatment for each person, I believe one must begin with an accurate understanding of the problem. I believe that accurate understanding begins with careful listening. As a medical doctor, I also consider and evaluate medical problems that may present with psychiatric symptoms. While treatment often involves medication, I understand people want to avoid medication if possible. I will explain treatment options with and without medication and how medications work. My main objectives are  to help you understand your symptoms, to relieve your suffering, and to improve your functioning.

General Adult Psychiatry

I treat adults age 20 or above. The most common problems I treat are Depression, Anxiety, Panic Disorder, Attention Deficit Disorder, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, and Bipolar Disorder. As a psychiatrist, my primary "tool" is medication,  or specifically, "psychopharmacology". Most psychiatric issues are best addressed by a combination of medication and psychotherapy. I happily coordinate treatment with your therapist. As a medical doctor, I limit my practice to treating conditions within my specialty of psychiatry. Thus, while psychiatry has some overlap with neurology, I am not a neurologist and generally do not treat neurological conditions. And, though mental health issues often play a role in pain management, I am not a pain doctor, and I do not prescribe pain medication. Also, I do not do evaluations for disability, for clearance (such as return to work), and I do not do expert witness testimony for court.
